Mark Weber is the Director of Operations for the annual Chrysler-Jeep Superstores APBA Gold Cup race on the Detroit River.   "Mark has truly unique experience as a racer, business manager and is a passionate supporter of the Gold Cup powerboat racing tradition in Detroit," said Regatta Association President Bill Rands.

"Our job is to help deliver a safe, exciting and fiscally responsible event to the community. We want to deliver a product to the river that the people want to see and will continue to support," said Weber.

Weber's got a big job.  He's responsible for the day-to-day management of the Regattas Association, including administration, overseeing volunteer and team leader activities and working in conjunction with the marketing team on sponsorships and sales activities.

Mark's a third generation boat racer, a Detroit native, and competed in 7 Gold Cup races in Detroit.  He's also directed nearly 50 races.

Mark's Unlimited Hydroplane Racing History

In the late 90's, Weber raced Unlimited Hydroplanes for Fred Leland.  In the U-99 hull, he posted third place finishes at Madison and Tri-Cities.  He stepped in as the driver of the Miss Budweiser when Dave Villwock was seriously injured in the 1997 season at Tri-Cities.  Driving Miss Bud, Weber won the Las Vegas Cup on Lake Mead - his first-ever Unlimited Hydroplane race win.

In 1998, he was racing the U-3 for Ed Cooper, but then switched to the U-10 for the last three races of the year.  He added a first place race finish to his resume, running at Pearl Harbor.

Weber stayed with the U-10 for the next three years, finishing third in National High Points in 1999 and second in both 2000 & 2001.  Weber briefly came out of retirement in 2003 for the Gold Cup race driving Miss Chrysler Jeep.
