U-1's Mike Allen fractured his thumb in Evansville flip

Of the three flips in Evansville this year, only driver Mike Allen appeared to sustain any lasting injuries.  During the flip of the U-1 FormulaBoats.com, the steering wheel flew around, momentarily trapping his hand.  The hard yank caused a fracture in Allen's left thumb.

Both Allen and the boat took some damage.  But the crew says both doat and driver should be ready to go for Madison.  Allen said the team was taking the boats back to Ted Porter's Formula Boats shop in Decatur, Ind. and will work on both boats there.

After the crash, Allen was able to spring the cockpit open and get out on his own power and stand on the deck waiting for the rescue crew to get there.

"You try to adjust your boat through the day and stay ahead of the river," said U-1 driver Mike Allen. "It's a battle on conditions and current and river levels that mother nature throws at you."

"You have your competitors, but you're racing the river as well."
