Nate Brown will drive back-up Elam boat in Detroit
A new driver and a new boat will represent the Ellstrom team at the Gold Cup in Detroit.
Owner Erick Ellstrom announced the changes after driver Dave Villwock ran aground in Valleyfield after the boat lost a skid fin. Villwock appeared OK after the crash, but Ellstrom said Nate Brown will take over driving duties for the Detroit race only with Villwock to return for Tri-Cities.
After the Valleyfield crash, the team took the boat back to Seattle for repairs. It should be ready by Tri-Cities. The back-up hull will be headed to Detroit, where Nate Brown will pilot the Elam for the Gold Cup.
"We feel very comfortable with Nate in the cockpit of the Elam," said Ellstrom in a news release. "He knows the team and will be exactly what we need to help this team capture the Gold Cup."
"This is something the team knows they have to battle back from," said Ellstrom. "We have a good crew and we know Nate is the man to replace Dave ."
