Japan Helps Pay for Tsunami Debris Removal - NBC Right Now/KNDO/KNDU Tri-Cities, Yakima, WA |

SEATTLE, Wash.-- Japan is paying out $5-million to help with the removal and disposal of debris that washed ashore in the U.S. from the March 2011 tsunami.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will handle the funds. NOAA says it will initially give $250,000 to Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, and Hawaii. They plan to hold the rest of the money in reserve as needs arise.

   
Japan also gave Canada $1-million to help clean up debris on their West Coast.
