RICHLAND, Wash. -- Hundreds of male gymnasts from throughout the state will make their way to the Tri-Cities this weekend. Southridge High School and Mid-Columbia Gymnastics will host the boys' state championships. The young athletes can qualify for regionals at the meet. Then from there, the national meet. Local gymnasts are excited to put the men on the mat on the map.
"Just one of the few opportunities where men's gymnastics actually comes to the Tri-Cities. It's not something that happens very often. The bulk of the programs are coming from the west side of the state," Mid-Columbia Gymnastics coach Len Softich said.
"I think it's the hardest sport. That's what I think a lot of people say. But it's one of the coolest sports. You take the hardest things and make it look really easy. People are just amazed," 16-year-old Aaron Brooks added.
