YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima County and the Greenway
Foundation are pursing a grant to extend the Greenway into Naches.
The county previously applied for state
funds in 2010, but just barely missed out on the money.
Just a few weeks ago, the state notified
the Greenway that the fund now has a 400-thousand dollar surplus and they're at
the top of the list to get the money.
The county says they're not surprised.
"If you're right on the line,
there's always a good chance that there's going to be some funding, may not be
full funding," says Yakima County Engineer Gary Ekstedt.
The county says the grant could let them
add three miles to the Greenway in the Naches area.
The extension is part of an ongoing
project to extend the greenway by a total of 11 miles.
