Colorado Judge Enters Not Guilty Plea For Holmes

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: A Colorado judge has scheduled an Aug. 5 trial for the man charged with a deadly movie theater shooting.

The judge entered a not guilty plea on behalf of James Holmes Tuesday after the former graduate student's defense team said he was not ready to enter one.

Prosecutors plan to announce whether they'll seek the death penalty at an April 1 hearing.

Holmes is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder in the July 20 attack at an Aurora movie theater that killed 12 people and injured 70.

He sat silently through Tuesday's proceedings and wore a red jail jumpsuit. He sported a thick, bushy beard and unkempt dark brown hair.

His parents, James and Arlene Holmes, sat silently at the front of the courtroom.
