NEW DETAILS: Police Investigate Fatal Home Intrusion Incident In N. Spokane

FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINER'S OFFICE: The man who died in last night's home intrusion has been identified as 28-year old Marshall J. Balduff. CAUSE: Gunshot wound to the chest. MANNER: Homicide.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: At approximately 7:00 Wednesday night, Spokane police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 6017 N. Wall. A witness on scene stated that a man known to the homeowners had entered the home through a doggie door. 

The homeowner fired a shot and killed the intruder.  The homeowners stated that they had been receiving threats from the individual who was shot and believed that he was armed with a large knife at the time of the shooting.

Officers attempted CPR on the shooting victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crimes Detectives served a search warrant and conducted a search of the scene.  All involved parties were cooperative with the police investigation.

No arrests have been made and the investigation will be forwarded to the Prosecutors Office when complete.

An autopsy is being conducted today.  The Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the shooting victim.

A large knife was recovered from the scene which is believe to belong to the deceased.

UPDATE: A man who was attempting to force his way into a north Spokane home Wednesday evening was shot and killed, according to Spokane Police. It happened in the 6000 block on N. Wall Street just before 7:00pm.

Police spokeswoman Monique Cotton says it did not appear to be an attempted robbery but the specific reason for the home intrusion is unclear.
    
She says it's unlikely anyone will be charged with the shooting.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police say a man died Wednesday night after he was shot while trying to force his way into a home in north Spokane.

It happened in the 6000 block on N. Wall Street just before 7:00pm.

According to police someone inside the home opened fire killing the would be intruder.

Police tell us that a group of about 8 or 9 people were inside the home at the time of the incident.

They were taken in for questioning and are being cooperative with investigators.

No one is currently under arrest for the shooting and officers say there is no threat to the neighborhood or community.

North Wall St. from Francis to Central will be closed for several hours as detectives continue to investigate this incident.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One person has been detained after a shooting in north Spokane. It happened just before 7:00pm Wednesday evening in the 6000 block of N. Wall St.

Officials on scene tell us that the victim was shot in the shoulder. Paramedics did enter the home, but did not take anyone away.

Wall St. is blocked in both directions from Dalke to Central. Please avoid that area if at all possible.

Spokane Police officers remain on scene as they continue to investigate.
