PUD Says Scam is Targeting Hispanic Businesses

Posted: Updated:

Pasco, Wash.- The Franklin Public Utility District is warning Hispanic merchants about a scam.

The PUD says someone is calling business owners posing as a PUD employee, and tells them they are past due on their electric bill and a PUD truck is standing by to shut off their power.

PUD Spokeswoman Debbie Bone-Harris says the utility doesn't solicit customers by phone just for payment. If customers do make a payment by phone, Bone-Harris says the PUD gives them a confirmation code.

She says if customers are unsure a call is from the PUD they should hang up and call customer service directly at 509-547-5591.
