RICHLAND, Wash. -- As the Tri-Cities continues to grow, so do the number of violent criminals involved with guns and drugs.
That's one of the reasons why Franklin County Deputy Prosecutor Brian Hultgrenn will now assist with Federal court cases that deal with crimes that go above the state's prosecution capabilities.
Hultgrenn received the designation in Federal Court Thursday afternoon by the Judge Edward Shea. The designation will also allow Hultgrenn to tie in his cases at Franklin County into Federal Court.
"This allows us to take a certain type of case and then file it into Federal Court where as before we'd be powerless to do anything. It will also give us additional options in terms of penalties on gun cases, drug cases and things like that," he said.
Hultgrenn will continue his duties in the Franklin County Prosecutor's office, where he's worked for the last ten years.
