KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick Police are investigating an unusual burglary after a thief broke into a home by using the doggie door.
Officers say a suspect entered a home on the 5000 blk of W. 9th Ave. through the doggie door and then drove his car into the garage to load up several items. The burglar stole 2 TV's, a Blu-Ray Player, and other valuables.
Kennewick Police say because the criminal used the doggie door, the suspect may be someone who already knew the house.
"It's possible that somehow, someone had been at the house maybe for some legitimate reason and saw how easy it was going to be to get back in the house. So always be cautious when you have people over. Make sure you know who they are. Most of all when you leave it, lock it," said Kennewick Police Sgt. Ken Lattin.
Sergeant Lattin says dog door thefts are not a rare occurrence and people should look at it like any other entrance to their home.
Many models of dog doors have a lock option and police advise people to find one that fits their house.
