PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PEND OREILLE COUNTY SHEIFF'S OFFICE: On Friday, February
8, 2013 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Dispatch
received a call from Sadie Halstead Middle School in reference to a bomb
threat, found written on a bathroom wall.
School officials
reacted quickly to the threat and safely relocate all students to other School
District facilities while deputies completed a full sweep of the building. No device was located and a bomb sniffing
K-9 from TSA was requested to complete a secondary sweep of the building.
In addition, Newport
School District officials sent letters home to parents and guardians to inform
them of the incident.
This remains an
ongoing investigation and Sadie Halstead Middle School will resume classes on
Monday morning.
