OLYMPIA, Wash., -- The vacant senate seat left by former Sen. Jerome Delvin (R-Richland) is vacant no longer. Sen. Sharon Brown (R-Kennewick) will now represent the 8th Legislative District of the Washington State Senate following her swearing-in ceremony by the Washington State Supreme Court Monday morning.
Brown served as Kennewick mayor pro tem prior to filling the vacant senate seat left by Delvin (R-Richland).
"It is truly an honor to represent the people of the 8th Legislative District, and it is my intention to educate some of my western Washington colleagues about ways the Tri-Cities have succeeded in the hope that what we've done can serve as a statewide model," says Brown. "During my four years as a city councilor I have seen firsthand how decisions made in Olympia don't always translate well across the rest of Washington, and I want to add my voice to the chorus working on behalf of our central and eastern Washington residents."
Brown will serve on the Senate Agriculture, Water and Rural Economic Development Committee, theEnergy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee, the Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee, and the Transportation Committee.
Delvin was elected in November to the Benton County Commission and stepped down from the state Senate on Friday.
