HERMISTON - The Hermiston School District is celebrating a successful year for graduating students.
On Thursday, the Oregon Department of Education announced the district exceeded the state average in graduation and dropout rates, outperforming most school districts.
The state holds a 68.4% four-year graduation rate, and the Hermiston School District came in at 68.6%, up four percent from the previous year.
The Oregon Department of Education looked at students who entered high school as ninth graders in 2008-2009 and then graduated with a four year high school diploma.
HSD's five year completer rate, which includes students who are earning a GED, modified diploma, or other certificate, was 81.1%, the state rate was 80.5%.
