Benton Co. Commissioners Select Sharon Brown for State Senate Seat

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Benton County Commissioners select Kennewick Mayor Pro-Tem Sharon Brown to replace Jerome Delvin in Washington's 8th District State Senate seat.

The meeting was packed full of people wanting to know more about the candidates, and the decision was very surprising to some. Brown has significantly less experience than the other two candidates, State Representatives Larry Haler and Brad Klippert.

However, Commissioner Jerome Delvin told the room he believed she was the perfect replacement because she had a clear vision for the area.

"It is my hope and my desire that not just my kids, but everyone's children who are in the Tri-Cities want to come back and raise their families in the Tri-Cities. We got it going on in the Tri-Cities and we want to share that with Olympia," Brown said. She also added her priorities include promoting growth in the area and making local businesses more competitive.

Brown will serve the rest of the current legislative session and then run for election in November.

Delvin left the Senate after replacing Benton County Commissioner Leo Bowman.
