UNION GAP, wash.--Two Union Gap residents are recovering after they suffered knife wounds to the face this weekend.
It's the kind of story you typically only see in a movie. Police said a Union Gap man lost control, almost killing his brother and his brother's girlfriend in a very violent way.
NBC Right Now asked, "Did he cut her like the joker style?"
"He did," said Detective Stace McKinley of the Union Gap Police Department.
According to court documents the suspect, Emery Brasker, was at his home along the 2100 Block of South 4th Avenue when things quickly turned ugly.
"Usually, an argument ensues, but in this case it doesn't even look like an argument ensued," said Detective McKinley. "It just happened without any argument between the parties."
Court documents said Brasker cut the woman's throat with a knife, going from ear to ear. When the brother tried to intervene, Brasker allegedly turned the knife on him and stabbed him in the face as well.
"Both of the victims were very lucky he missed the carotid artery very nearly," said Detective McKinley. "By I think it was 4 millimeters."
Police said there were several witnesses in the house and Brasker took off. He called police a short while later and told them he was contemplating suicide.
Police picked him up along the 800 Block of West Valley Boulevard and took him into custody. Brasker told police he didn't know why he did it and that he simply just snapped.
Detective McKinley said this is not Brasker's first run in with the law.
"He was well known to pretty much all the law enforcement in the area," said Detective McKinley.
Brasker had a lengthy misdemeanor criminal record, including issues with drugs.
The two victims were released from the hospital Monday afternoon. Brasker was supposed to make his first preliminary appearance in court Monday, but it was delayed. He should be in court to face a judge Tuesday.
