KENNEWICK, Wash. - A teenager from the Tri-Cities is facing assault charges after police say he attacked another teen at a library.

Kennewick police say 17-year-old Cyril Vaughan attacked a 16-year-old boy at the Keewaydin branch of the Mid-Columbia Libraries earlier this month.

Officers say the 16-year-old had been wearing a crimson WSU sweatshirt, which Vaughan and other blue-wearing gang members perceived as a rival gang color.

Police say the 16-year-old victim doesn't have ties to street gangs, and needed six stitches for a head wound. Officers also say he dropped his laptop during the assault, which three other teens then stole and took off.

In a Benton County courtroom, Vaughan said he was innocent of the robbery charges.
