HERMISTON, Ore. -- Just days after President Obama announced his 23 Executive Orders dealing with gun control, one Hermiston man organized a rally in support of the 2ND amendment.
Jerry Hennings is not only a Certified NRA Instructor, but he and his wife teach monthly gun safety courses at their business, Triple H in Hermiston. Saturday, Hennings is hoping more than 500 people will join him for a 2nd Amendment Rally at McKenzie park in Hermiston at 10 AM.
Hennings says guns are used 60 times more often to protect the lives of law abiding citizens than to take a life. He said universal background checks should not apply to people selling their weapons to family members or friends. Hennings believes bans on assault rifles are taking away a person's right to protect themselves. "You're going to have multiple attackers at times and there's evil people out there. For us to not be able to respond to the same things they have is kind of backward thinking," said Hennings.
Hennings also reached out to Hermiston and Oregon State law makers to help them uphold the second amendment as is. He said being an instructor, he's seen about a 50 percent increase in people wanting to take gun safety courses since the Sandy Hook shooting.
