KENNEWICK, Wash. - In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on January 15th, students in Kennewick are showing their support.
The fifth grade class at Westgate Elementary came together Tuesday morning to sing "One Nation," a song about freedom, unity, and the American dream.
Administrators say since students at Westgate speak a total of 18 different languages, the importance of equality hits close to home.
"The song like, shows how you should be kind to each other and even though we're all different, we all come together as one," said Bailey Berger, a 5th grader at Westgate.
"If they didn't know about racism and they kept on doing it, lot's of cultures wouldn't be here at this school," said Shane Thaung, another Westgate 5th grader.
The holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. day, began in 1986. Since 1992, the country has been celebrating MLK day every year on the third Monday of January.
