KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A Kennewick man is left with nothing but the clothes on his back, his truck and his dog. after flames destroyed his house Thursday morning. The fire started around 10:00 AM on the 300 block of East 7th street.
Benton County assisted the Kennewick Fire Department in the hour long battle but the house was a total loss, estimated at $65,000.
Kennewick Fire Marshall, Mark Yaden says the cause is still under investigation but the man said he was burning in a wood stove earlier in the morning.
"He had to leave for about 40 minutes. When he came back the fire department was already here so he was unaware of the fire other than when he pulled in. So we'll be looking at that wood stove as well as electrical and anything else that we can examine," said Yaden who plans on continuing the investigation Friday.
Yaden also said firefighters had a hard time getting on the roof because it was dangerous and fire hydrants were also located far from the home.
The man who lived in the house is staying with friends. However, the owner of Swanky Babies, Jenna Boogerd is collecting household items, clothing, pet food and money at her downtown Kennewick store. The address is 223 W. Kennewick Ave. or you can call 509-396-7151.
