SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-- People in Sunnyside should start seeing work begin on a new fire department soon.
Last April, voters approved a $5.3-million dollar bond that'll pay for the renovation and construction of the new fire house.
The city purchased an old doctor's office next door to the current station to build the new department that will be connected to the existing building.
"One of the benefits the citizens are going to receive is the fact that we're staying here, centrally located in downtown, and so right now this will service our needs for many years to come," Chief Aaron Markham said.
Markham says they hopes to break ground on the new facility in just a couple of months. They anticipate construction taking about a year.
