Autopsy has no answers to Benton County Jail inmate death

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Benton County Coroner says the autopsy results for an inmate tased at the Benton County Jail last week are inconclusive.

29 year old Kevin Culp of Spokane died Christmas Day at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, after being tased by corrections officers on December 17th.

Coroner John Hansens says they are waiting for toxicology results before they can determine a cause of death, which could take anywhere from 6-8 weeks.

Authorities say Culp had a medical condition and jail nurses were watching him in an isolation cell when he became combative, biting the staff. They said that's when corrections officers tased him and he became unresponsive.

The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated by the Special Investigative Unit comprised of officers and detectives from local Law Enforcement agencies.
