OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Washington State Health Department says a young boy and two older adults are the first people to die in the state this season from the flu.
Health officials say the boy from Pierce County was younger than 12 years old and died in December. The adults were a man in his 80's and a woman in her 70's who both lived in King County, and died in the last two weeks.
The Health Department says an average of two children and 25 adults die of the flu each year in the state. The worst flu season recently was 2009-2010 when 5 children and 95 adults died.
