Record Gun Sales Triggered By Recent Events

Posted: Updated:

HERMISTON, Ore. - When a mass shooting happens in the United State's there is often a surge in gun sales immediately after. It happened again after Friday's tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

Adding fuel to the fire, President Obama called for a new task force Wednesday to develop ideas to reduce gun violence. The group has until January to come up with some changes.

Some gun enthusiasts have taken that as a threat, though, and are now forking over some big bucks with the idea they won't be able to purchase guns or ammo they wants, depending on what happens with gun control.

Local stores said their sales have double, or more, in light of recent events.

"Yesterday was our largest sales day ever in the history of the business and our daily sales were higher than any other prior week entirely and better than some months," said Eastern Oregon Tactical LLC owner Nick Goit.

Shoppers have their sights set on self defense items like handguns or AR 15's, which is a semi-automatic rifle.

As the deadline for the President's gun violence task force nears, dealers don't expect business to slow down anytime soon.
