YAKIMA, Wash.-- A non-profit shelter in Yakima is getting $12,500 as part of the Walmart Foundation's "12 Days of Giving" campaign.
Rod's House is one of only 15 non-profits nationwide to receive a donation from Walmart on day nine of the campaign, which focused places that provided shelter.
Rod's House is a shelter for homeless youth and also provides a safe place away from gangs, drugs, and alcohol.
The winners were partially decided through a Facebook campaign. The final winners were decided on by Walmart associates from around the company and a panel from the Walmart Foundation.
"Very surprised. I actually got an email from someone in the community that said 'go on to Facebook and like Rod's House at Walmart, you know, the 12 Days of Giving'. I wasn't even aware we were nominated," said Rod's House Executive Director Jill Sunwold.
Rod's House says all of their money comes from donations.
They say the Walmart donation will go toward education programs, employment, and housing.
