NEWTOWN, Conn. - Police are not saying what may have motivated 20-year-old Adam Lanza to open fire inside two classrooms on Friday, but officials said the gunman was believed to suffer from a personality disorder.
Officials said Lanza killed his mother in their home before driving his mother's car to the school.
Police said Lanza carried two handguns into the school and a rifle was found in the back of his car. They said the shootings happened in two classrooms but are not giving any more details on how they unfolded.

NEWTOWN, Conn. - Connecticut State Police are confirming the suspect in this morning's elementary school shooting is 20-year-old Adam Lanza.
Officers say they are currently questioning Adam Lanza's older brother, 24-year-old Ryan Lanza, of Hoboken, New Jersey.
An earlier report from a law enforcement official mistakenly mixed up the brothers' first names. That same official now says the shooter, Adam Lanza is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police are confirming that a total of 28 people died in relation to the shooting: 20 children and 8 adults.
Officers say 18 children died at the scene of the shooting, paramedics brought 2 more to the hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
Officers say the shooter killed 6 adults, including his mother, Nancy Lanza, who worked as a teacher, and the principal, Dawn Hochsprung, before turning the gun on himself.

Reports are that he shot and killed his mother who also worked at the school. There are also uncomfirmed reports that Lanza may have shot and killed his father in his New Jersey home before opening fire at the elementary school.

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) - An official with knowledge of a shooting at a Connecticut elementary school says 27 people are dead, including 18 children.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way.
Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, says the gunman is among the dead.
The killings happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, about 60 miles northeast of New York City. State police say Newtown police called them around 9:40 a.m.
A SWAT team was among the throngs of police to respond.
