RICHLAND, Wash. -Workers at the Horn Rapids landfill are getting into the holiday spirit.
They're collecting pet food and supplies for Pet Over Population Prevention, the group of volunteers that finds home for stray animals in the Tri-Cities.
Lynne Follett in the Richland Solid Waste Department says last year the landfill workers collected nearly $800 and more than 200 pounds of pet supplies for POPP.
"We have a lot of pets that come with their owners out to the landfill. They love to come out here and we love to have them, so it was just a natural choice for all of us out here."
People who drop off a donation will receive a candy cane reindeer; pets along for the ride get a treat.
The pet drive continues through December 31.
