Yakima, WASH.--Up to 60,000 people in Washington could lose their Federal Emergency Unemployment Benefits by the end of this year.
We pulled the numbers and found out how many people it could affect locally.
In Yakima County and Benton County, more than 2,000 people in each county could see their benefits end.
The Employment Security Department said they've been notifying these people, telling them the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program will not likely carry into the new year.
"We've been communicating with these individuals for some time now that they should go to WorkSource, make sure that their resumes are up to speed, that they know the latest techniques in interviewing," said Sheryl Hutchison, the communications director for Employment Security Department. "They know how to find jobs and really ramp up their search."
The compensation program has been in effect for four years. The program will end unless the president and Congress approve another extension.
