Yakima, WASH.--The generosity in Yakima was overwhelming Saturday afternoon for NBC Right Now's Family Food Drive.
With the help of many volunteers, NBC Right Now was able to collect $8,500 in donations for Northwest Harvest. These donations will be distributed to more than 350 hunger relief programs across the state.
Volunteers said food insecurity is a big problem in our area, and donations are needed all the time.
"I teach at the local community college and several of my students visit local food pantries for their needs, and I really encourage everyone to donate," said Addy Logsdon, a volunteer for the food drive. "It's not just families, it's students. There's a lot of need in this community and fortunately, we have a lot of generous people."
Northwest Harvest distributes over 26 million pounds of food a month.
