PORTLAND, Ore. A federal judge says the government doesn't have to reveal the names of two FBI operatives who provided a fake bomb to a man now facing terrorism charges.
Judge Garr King ruled the government's national security interest in protecting the identities outweighs any defense interest in obtaining the names.
In the written judgment, King says disclosing their names "may reasonably be expected to cause serious damage to the national security of the United States."
The FBI says Mohamed Mohamud, 21, conspired with the men he believed were Islamic radicals to detonate a car bomb near a Portland Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in 2010.
Mohamud's lawyers say they plan an entrapment defense.
