Hundreds turn out for Thanksgiving Day lunch

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- In Yakima, hundreds of people crowded into the Union Gospel Mission for a Thanksgiving lunch Thursday.

Organizers say they saw almost 300 people stop by for mashed potatoes, stuffing, and of course turkey.

It's a yearly event that takes place at mission's across the country, and those who stopped by in Yakima say it's always a nice way to spend the holiday.

"I just thank the Union Gospel Mission in Yakima for the opportunities that they have for people that are less fortunate at a time like today," said Les Nelson, one of the many people who had lunch at UGM.

Along with the Thanksgiving lunches, the mission also provided grocery's to 500 families this year, so they could make their own Thanksgiving dinner.
