Yakima, WASH.--Black Friday is becoming Black Thursday. A couple large retail stores are opening their doors early, and it's causing a bit of controversy.
Target will usher shoppers in at 9 p.m. Thursday, but Walmart and Sears will open even earlier at 8 p.m.
This move has got a lot of people talking and the local buzz isn't very positive. Shoppers said they think it's a bad idea.
They said Thanksgiving is about being with family and friends not looking for the greatest deals. Others said it's not fair to the workers.
"I think they should open Friday around maybe six or seven in the morning to give people a chance to enjoy the Thanksgiving holidays with their families," said Yolanda Sauceda.
"I think Thanksgiving is to be home with your family and friends," Carol Keeter said.
"I think the workers need to be able to be home, I absolutely do," Wanda Wilkinson said.
We'll just have to wait and see if this was a good move for the companies. Either people will come out after eating their Thanksgiving meals or the aisles might be empty and the shelves will stay stocked until Friday morning.
