Tridec lobbyist hopes to steer Tri Cities away from fiscal cliff

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND,Wash. -Tridec's lobbyist in Washington, D. C., says he's trying to keep federal lawmakers from driving off the fiscal cliff and taking the Tri-Cities with it.

Speaking to the business development group Friday, Tim Pekinpaugh says the negotiations that began today in Washington, D.C. could have a profound impact on the Tri-Cities including Hanford clean-up.

"But this community always pulls through. We've always been very effective at getting the right arguments put together and getting our congressional allies and the governor working as a team to help us support Hanford."

Peckinpaugh says he's confident lawmakers can reach a compromise and avoid the automatic spending cuts and tax increases that would kick-in January first.
