EUGENE, Ore. The city of Eugene is considering creating a
village for the growing number of homeless people seeking shelter this winter.
The city council members say a village where people could stay warm and get a meal could prevent people from
becoming homeless, increase vehicle and tent camping spaces, and find storage
for the belongings of homeless people.
City Manager Jon Ruiz
says those three ideas combined could cost about $100,000 annually.
The Eugene Mission, the city's largest homeless shelter, is adding beds
but can't keep up with the growing homeless population.
