GNAC title not enough to send CWU to playoffs

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Central Washington University football finished its season on a high note, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title. Now there are no more games. The Wildcats will not advance to the playoffs with their 7-4 record. It takes a lot to reach the playoffs at their level.

"To make the playoffs in super region 3, you have to have a special year. You have to have maybe one loss, maybe two losses. A 7-4 team even if you're the champion of any conference, probably not going to make the division-2 playoffs. It's very competitive. They try to identify the top 24 teams in the country and there's always eight or nine undefeated teams, there's always eight or nine one loss teams," head coach Blaine Bennett said.
