RICHLAND,Wash. -The principal of Delta High School has won a $50,000 prize she says she'll spend on her students.
The Paul G. Allen Foundation recognized Deidre Holmberg for her creative leadership in bringing together the three school districts in the Tri-Cities, Columbia Basin College as well as private industry in supporting the school, which specializes in math, science, and technology.
"When you have all of those people, community leaders, smart people working together for our community's kids, obviously the results are going to be amazing," Holmberg says.
Holmberg and the three school districts are preparing to ask for state funding for Delta when the legislature convenes for its next session.
Holmberg says she'll spend the prize money on scholarships and to help students pay for learning materials, clothing for their internships, and for more technology in the classrooms.
