Union Gap, WASH.-- A Yakima Valley woman was killed Friday morning in a car accident on Interstate 82.
It happened just before 10 a.m. near Union Gap.
State Troopers said 86-year-old Olive Pastrana of Harrah was driving in the right lane when she tried to make an illegal U-turn.
A truck carrying between 80 to 100 thousand pounds of apples was trying to pass on the left.
Troopers said the truck slammed into the car and pushed it about 100 feet off the Interstate.
"The impact occurs on the inside lane, and the driver did an extremely good job of maintaining control of his semi," said Lt. Terry Liebrecht of Washington State Patrol. "But they exited the freeway and then through the fence, and then they came to rest down here by the creek."
State Troopers said emergency responders started CPR on the woman, but her injuries were too severe and she died at the scene.
Troopers said the truck driver, 44-year-old Jose-Luis Calvario, was not injured.
No charges will be filed.
