Mattawa, WASH.--A Mattawa man is in jail for murder after a Yakima woman's body was found earlier this month.
Grant County Deputies took 35-year old Jose Abilion Aguilar Aguilar into custody around 8 p.m. Monday for shooting and killing Carmelita Lopez Santos.
Detectives said a hunter's dog found her body on Road 26 Southwest near a fish and wildlife area, three miles from Mattawa. Her body was found around two weeks ago.
Deputies said they tracked down the suspect, after Santos's family sent them information about a missing persons case.
"I can say with 100 percent certainty that he's the one responsible for killing Ms. Santos just based on some of the information he was able to provide us and some of the evidence we recovered," said Deputy Chief Ryan Rectenwald from the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Aguilar has also confessed to detectives.
Aguilar and Santos had a romantic relationship, but she broke it off, and that's when Aguilar became upset.
Aguilar is in Grant County Jail on suspicion of four charges, including first degree murder and felony harassment.
