Coats for Kids Donations in Yakima Low

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- As the temperatures drop outside, the need for warm winter coats continues to grow.

The Coats for Kids drive is only halfway over and several hundred coats have been collected around the region, but the Salvation Army in Yakima has only collected 40.

"It's cold in the mornings and a coat is sometimes.. Is a luxury. It's not something that maybe all children have access to," said Lisa Sargent with The Salvation Army in Yakima.

The Yakima Salvation Army said they are focusing on coats for elementary-aged students, because that's where the need is greatest. They are taking donations for kids up to high school age.
