YAKIMA, Wash.-- Franklin Park in Yakima is getting a brand new performance area thanks to the Sunrise Rotary.
The new structure will double as a stage for outdoor concerts and festivals in the park and as a covered picnic area.
Sunrise collected more than $240,000 in donations and grants to build the stage and some platforms for seats.
Members say they have a personal connection with the park.
"Our family as well as many people in Yakima have spent a lot of time at Franklin Park over the years. It's really nice to be able to... Work on a project that will directly impact space I've used for years," says Sunrise Rotary President Sheri Brockway.
Sunrise expects to start construction next year. They're not the only club with plans for the park.
Yakima Rotary and Southwest Rotary are working on a project to build a new playground there.
