RICHLAND,Wash.-Some
potato growers in the Tri-Cities area and a local insurance salesman go on
trial in federal court this week.
Attorneys on Wednesday start
picking jurors for the trial at the federal courthouse in Richland.
Federal
prosecutors accuse insurance agent Fred Ackerman and seven local potato growers
of trying to cheat the federal government out of more than nine million dollars
in insurance payments by creating false revenue losses.
The court clerk expects the trial to last five weeks.
