Police department employee fired for embezzlement

YAKIMA, Wash. - A Yakima Police employee is out of a job after embezzling thousands of dollars of City money.

Police said one of their administrators admitted to stealing about $6,000 from the home detention fund.

They said she came forward a few weeks ago, and admitted she's been stealing from the department since November 2009.

"To work with somebody for so many years and to... And this be the result, after you've worked with them and there's been a relationship of trust established, it's very troubling," said Captain Rod Light with the Yakima Police Department.

Captain Light says Yakima County prosecutors have the case now, and they do plan to file charges.

The former employee had been with YPD for more than 15 years.
