Community starts fundraisers for boys hit by car

Yakima, WASH.--A car crash that sent two young boys to the hospital in critical condition is still weighing heavily on the minds of the people who knew them.

Chris and Israel Sanchez were waiting for the school bus Monday morning when they were hit and dragged 80 feet.

The 10-year old is still in critical condition at Harborview in Seattle, but police said the 11-year old is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

The two boys go to McClure Elementary School. Their teachers said they were great boys, and have many friends at school who are extremely concerned.

Teachers said they sent notes home with their students Monday so their families can help them understand.

"Kind boys," said kindergarten teacher Sara Sullivan. "We're so happy that they're a McClure family, and we're happy to try to come alongside them in their time of need."

There will be an event next Thursday evening, October 25th, at El Porton on 48th avenue from 5 to 8.

A portion of the proceeds from people's dinners will go to the Sanchez family.

Teachers said they're also working to put together a Zumbathon fundraiser sometime soon. People can also drop off donations any time at McClure Elementary School on 22nd Avenue.
