CWU football beats Simon Fraser in first true home game of season

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Central Washington University football sure gave its home crowd something to cheer about. In the first real home game of the season at Tomlinson Stadium, Central destroyed Simon Fraser University, 51-10. Senior running back Demetrius Sumler rushed for 226 yards and five touchdowns. The Wildcats are now 5-1 in the GNAC. Head coach Blaine Bennett talked about the homecoming game.

"It was really exciting to be at home, to be at Tomlinson Stadium for the first time. A lot of our players have never been on the game field. Demetrius Sumler--our running back transfer from Colorado--that was the first time he's played in that stadium. He had a great game. There were other guys on that team that have never played in that stadium. It was fun, great homecoming crowd. The band, the environment was a lot of fun for a college afternoon game," Bennett said.

Central Washington's next game is Saturday at Azusa Pacific University.
