Ohana Center raises money for breast cancer

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH.--It's breast cancer awareness month, and Ohana Mammography Center held their first fundraiser for breast cancer Saturday.

They had several crafts and food vendors including jewelry, baked goods and items from Mary Kay cosmetics.

People could even pay $10 to get their picture taken in pink t-shirts with local firefighters.

All proceeds will pay for mammograms, treatment and breast cancer education.

The Ohana manager, Nancy Roehr, said having these funds is crucial since the economy has women thinking twice about getting their mammogram.

"People are choosing not to have their mammogram because they have bills to pay, they have food to buy, families to take care of and we just can't do that," said Roehr. "We have to get our mammogram every year after age 40."

Volunteers and staff at Ohana raised around $2,000.
