PASCO, Wash.-- People often think of food banks when giving to those in need, but what about a diaper bank.
The Tri-Cities Diaper Bank is one of only about 100 in the U.S.
They had a booth at the Women's Expo this weekend in Pasco to get the word out about the importance of giving diapers. They cost about a thousand dollars a year for one baby and one in three families struggle to afford them.
"Families in our country struggle routinely to afford diapers, to pay for rent, utilities, food or diapers and often it's the last thing on the list that they can afford. It's a very routine, very normal problem," said Adra Johnson, Tri-Cities Diaper Bank.
Babies that don't get fresh diapers can become subject to child abuse. If they're not changed, they might keep crying because of discomfort and that can sometimes lead to abuse.
