Inmate video conferencing moved next door to jail

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A big change for anyone that uses inmate video conferencing at the Yakima County Corrections Center.

You'll now have to go to the General Administration Building right next door to the jail.

The Department of Corrections moved the facility from the Restitution Center in Union Gap, to the admin. building to make it more accessible and safer for people who use the service.

"It will be easier for us and it's always nice to have more staff nearby in case there's a problem. And of course, it's more convenient for everybody," said Chief Karen Kelley with the DOC.

Video conferencing has been down since last week while the move was underway, but Chief Kelley says it'll open back up Tuesday.
