YAKIMA, Wash.-- A Yakima man is dead after his car collided with a semi-truck.
It happened around 8am Wednesday morning at the intersection of Ahtanum Road and 64th Avenue.
The Washington State Patrol says 91-year-old Gordon Haines of Yakima was turning onto Ahtanum when he cut off a semi-truck hauling apples.
Troopers say the truck driver tried to swerve out of the way.
"You have to yield to these trucks because they can't stop very quickly. They have a lot of weight involved with the apple products and they cannot stop as quickly as a car," said Sgt. Patrick Ditter.
People who live nearby say the high speed limit makes Ahtanum Road very dangerous and they see accidents quite often.
