Carousel of Dreams a step closer to reality thanks to new sponsors
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Plans to open The Carousel of Dreams at Kennewick's Southridge Sports complex are a step closer to becoming a reality.
The president of the Three Rivers Carousel Foundation, Eric Van Winkle, says two sponsors approached the group and together donated more than a million dollars. He says they now have about $1.5 million dollars which puts them at 66% of their goal.
Van Winkle says they will not announce the names of the sponsors until everything is finalized. One donated a million dollars for 12 year naming rights, the other will cover operation costs for the next five years at $100,000.
Van Winkle says the sponsors approached him, and they have yet to begin asking people for money. "This thing has art, entertainment and culture, and historical and its family. its got all those pieces and it's a gateway to the community itself. the community is 100 % behind us. We weren't quite sure, but now we know. we're getting ready to dig a hole here in the next month or two," says Van Winkle.
Van Winkle wants the 100 year old carousel to open by Summer.
