SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane Chiefs spoiled Tri-City's party last weekend, and they hope they can do it all over again this Saturday in Spokane.

Spokane dealt the Americans their first opening day home loss since 2005, winning the contest 5-2. It was the Chiefs' first opening night win since 2009.

Tri-City outshot Spokane 31-30. However, the Chiefs outshot the Americans 17-4 in the second period.

For the Chiefs, it was an impressive way to start the season off with a victory.

"It's been a long time coming for us – to get them in their home opener," said the Chiefs' Mitch Holmberg. "They played good and next Saturday we'll have to play the same way and just come out with another win."

A win is a win is a win, but the Chiefs say they could have done better. And they will do better.

"We feel we could have played better than we did," said defenceman Brenden Kichton. "We played pretty good the first two periods but the third period was really sluggish. We kind of got away from our structure and if we're going to beat these good teams we can't have sluggish periods."
